An air filter removes solid particles such as dust, pollen, mold and bacteria from the air. Air filters are used in applications where air quality is important, as in internal combustion engines, gas compressors, diving air compressors, gas turbines and others. To use the air intakes of engines and compressors usually either paper, foam or cotton media.
Cabin air filter
The cabin filterFolded filter paper filter, which is located in the outdoor air intake for passenger compartment of the vehicle. Some filters are rectangular. Others are shaped to fit the available space outside the air-vehicles "recording. This filter is often overlooked by the owners. Clogged or dirty cabin air filter can reduce airflow from the cabin vents, as well as the introduction of allergens into the cabin air.
Combustion Air Filter
The air filterprevent abrasive dirt would like into the engine cylinder, engine wear and oil contamination. Most fuel injected cars use a folded paper filter, which looks like a flat screen. This filter is in a plastic box connected to the throttle body between the intake manifold made. Older cars use carburetors or throttle body fuel injection, sometimes a round air filter, long usually a few inches high and 6 to 16 inches. It is usually located directly aboveCarburetor or throttle body and secured with a metal or plastic lid.
Paper
Pleated paper filters are the preferred choice for automobile engine air filters because they are efficient, service friendly and inexpensive. The "paper" as the filter media are considerably different from other papers.
Foam
Oil-wetted foam filters are used in some replacement air filter. Foam has been used in air cleaners on small engines and other power equipment, butAutos paper filter media since replacing oil-wetted foam filter. An oil-wetted foam air filters offer minimal airflow restriction or capture high dirt that this kind of choice in the off-road vehicles and other motor makes that meet high dust load.
Cotton
Oiled cotton gauze is in a small number of automotive aftermarket air filter as a high-performance markets products deals. In the past, cotton gauze saw limited use in original-equipment automotive airFilter.
Oil bath
An oil bath air filter is a round-based bowl with a pool of oil, and a round insert which is filled with fiber, mesh, foam or other coarse filter media. When you put together the cleaner, the media-containing body of the insert sits a short distance above the surface of the oil pool. The edge of the insert overlaps the rim of the base bowl. This arrangement forms a labyrinthine path through the air in a series of underground travel, must be: tothrough the gap between the edges of the insert and the base bowl, down through the gap between the outer wall of the insert and the inner wall of the base bowl until the filter media into the body of the insert. The U-turn takes the air at high speed across the surface of the oil pool. Larger and heavier dust and dirt particles in the air can not turn because of their inertia, they fall in the oil and to help resolve the underside of the base bowl. Lighter andsmaller particles by the filtration barrier in the use of which is coated with oil, is trapped by normal flow of air sucked up.
Oil bath air filters were very strong in the automotive and small engine applications are used until the widespread adoption of the filter is in the early 1960s. These cleaners are still for the off-road equipment, but experience very high levels of dust, for oil bath air filter can sequester a lot of dirt compared to theirTotal size without loss of filtration efficacy or airflow. However, the liquid oil makes cleaning and maintenance such as air filter dirty and uncomfortable, they must be relatively large to avoid excessive restriction in accordance with high air flow, and they tend to exhaust emissions of unburned hydrocarbons due to oil aspiration when increase in foreign-ignition engines.
