Tools and Items Needed For Hand Soldering a Quad Flat Pack

Before you start to solder a quad flat pack (QFP) on a circuit board on hand, you need several tools and objects. This article describes what the process, including safety products, consumables (materials that are used up, the "during the process) and tools.

If at any soldering is the first thing to consider security. In particular, the protection of the eyes, ears, lungs and skin.

The first security element that I recommend is a respirator. You canRespirator at your local hardware store. There are a variety of filters that you can buy for this, including those for paint dust and smoke, and so on. I always recommend the filters for agricultural use, because they make good general-purpose smoke and chemical filtering. It will help to protect your lungs from fumes too.

Another way to deal with fumes, is a bench-top smoke extractor. These are great, but personally I just use a breathing mask, the effectiveness and low cost.

Still on the subject of air safety, it is important to be careful that your work area fairly well ventilated, so it is not a building lot of smoke, where you work.

Eye protection is a must at all times. If you use a head loupe, it will protect your eyes and give you enlarge the same time. If you do not wear a head-on magnifying glass on a pair of safety glasses.

You also need to protect your hearing, especially when using a compressor in the circuit board cleaning process. air compressor can be heard in any case a danger while they are running. I like using the yellow foam earplugs to protect hearing. Alternatively, you can ear-muff type hearing protection. For additional hearing protection, you can use the foam ear plugs and ear muffs at the same time.

To protect the skin, I recommend using latex gloves. Make sure that the powder-freeones, so that you will not receive powder from the gloves floating on your plate and solder. You can buy these gloves at the supermarket. You can be flagged, powder-free latex gloves for food handling.

Now let's look at consumables. Consumables are materials that are used to during the process, such as flux, solder and cleaning products.

One of the real secrets to do quad flat pack and other types of surface mount soldering to be successful, "Gel-Flux", not"Fluid flows". Liquid flux is not enough solid or rosin content, for this process.

It is also important that the "no-clean" type of flow, which is chemically inert and will not be corrosive, too. Do not buy the kind of river water because it is corrosive and can damage your board if you are not able to wash everything out after the soldering process to correct.

Every brand soldering electronic Gel Flow is a good job, not like AIM or multicore. One possibility to buy gel river, is in a syringePackage. This is the most convenient way to buy it. Alternatively, you can buy it in a tub and load it into a syringe for delivery.

To clean the boards after soldering you will need some alcohol (also known as "Methodist") and a plastic container with a plastic container, the art can be a bag lunch, a food container or an empty ice cream container. Select the size of the container depending on how big your board is and how many you want to put themselves in the wash or soakthe same time.

And of course you need to solder a few. You can use a roll of tin-lead solder rosin cored from your local electronics store. Any type of Wire tin-lead solder electronics is in order.

As a side note, if you lead-free soldering, then you naturally have lead-free solder will do instead. The process for lead-free soldering is exactly the same, except that the temperature of your soldering iron needs to be higher. You can use the same gel for normal flow as a tin-lead applicationsSoldering. In general, I recommend you stay with tin-lead solder, if you specifically need for lead-free soldering for a project.

First, we are the tools you need to discuss, too.

Initially, only a brief reference - you do not name a "buy air rework station. They are expensive and do not need a friend in this process. What I do, that you do is a soldering iron with a" reservoir ".

A reservoir means they did the soldering iron tipconcave cavity, where the solder feed and it will remain there, the magic of surface tension. Then when you place the iron on the PCB, the solder flows into the cave on the blocks and pins of the chip.

The reservoir is the best way to for this kind of usage you can solder but also with a broad chisel tip on the soldering iron. As long as broad chisel tip is a small volume of solder for the soldering process to keep.

The next tool is a vacuum pickupTool. That's just a little attached with a suction cup squeeze bulb. They may differ from large suction fittings depending on the size of the component that you can gather up.

You also need some kind of brush. My favorite is a horse hair brush, which is a brush specifically designed for the cleaning of circuit boards. However, you can use any other type of natural fiber or nylon brush. For example, a small automotive parts cleaning brush, a toothbrush, or maybe a cosmetic nailBrush.

Another point which I have found, is invaluable in a hypodermic needle. It's a needle that is typically used with a syringe for intravenous injection. It is extremely useful for one of these available, quad flat pack to avoid problems with bent pins have fixed if you have a little accident and drop or have you come across a chip.

To rotate the needle into an extremely useful tool, simply use fine forceps to a small 90 degree bend at the end of the needle to make a little hook orGrabber for the pin legs.

You can get needles in your pharmacy. Just ask at the counter.

I highly recommend getting a compressor. Personally, I have a 1500 watt, 24-liter supercharged that I am at a hardware store for less than one hundred U.S. dollars. A compressor is a great investment for anyone doing electronics work. It is useful for the cleaning of printed circuit boards and components. It can also move and blow dust fluxResidue.

I also recommend an in-line separator and nozzle with air compressor. A separator is simply a cylindrical device that in conjunction with your on-line air hose and nozzle. It separates the moisture from the air coming out is the compressor, so that the air is relatively dry from the nozzle.

Finally, it is important to examine anti-static treatment. Anti-static treatment means that you ensure that allstatic electricity build-up in your body is not released by the chip or board. There are several ways that you may build a charge in your body, including going for a short walk across a carpet.

To take you from zapping your chips with a discharge by the fingers or hands, you can create a grounded antistatic wrist strap, or at least wear sure to disperse any static electricity from your body first. You can do this by touching a grounded metal object on yourBench, as the exposed metal screw on a grounded metal equipment case.

This includes all the elements you need for soldering a quad flat pack, including security products, consumables and tools.
